As you may recall, I was elected to the Assessor position last fall by the Central Committee when Lee Gardner vacated the office prior to the end of his term. I have years of professional assessment experience working in several capacities, including Chief Deputy Assessor prior to taking office. Salt Lake County has a total market value of $112 billion and it is important to have an individual that not only understands the entire property tax system, but also possesses the experience that comes from working in a county as large as ours. Salt Lake County employs modern and updated technology and is constantly working to enhance systems to ensure your property is valued accurately and fairly. I understand well the diverse and complex responsibilities of the job, and assure you that under my leadership, Salt Lake County will remain the leader in assessment performance within our State. meeting which will be held this Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Utah

This month we are inviting candidates and delegates to join us at our
monthly meeting. We want to give you the opportunity to meet with

their platform and get to know them on a personal level. Light

Report of 2014 Caucus Meeting for WJD030

Our caucus meeting was held last night Thursday March 20 at West Jordan Middle School There were 38 registered Republicans in attendance. Fifteen of these people registered for the meeting online using the new Voter Click system. There were no Same Day Ballots brought to the meeting. There were also no ballots submitted by email from military and religious service citizens. The Republican Party Platform was read and there was some interesting political discussion. We elected Precinct officers, two state delegates and four county delegates. Here the election results with contact information for those who will be serving us.

Sean Reyes is running for Utah Attorney General

Dear Fellow Utahn, It has been an honor and privilege to serve you and the State of Utah over the past several months. I feel my team and I have accomplished much in a short time. We have lived up to many campaign commitments I made, including an immediate audit of office resources with more audits to come and ongoing restructuring of key leadership positions. In addition, we worked closely with the legislature during the past two months to fine tune many bills and to obtain much needed funding for the office. At the same time, our team identified inefficiencies in our office and budget and returned money back to the state to demonstrate our commitment to fiscal conservatism and responsibility. We have abolished the use of administrative subpoenas in our office to protect privacy interests while still having tremendous success apprehending dangerous suspects who threaten our families and children on the Internet, in school and on the streets. We have worked to reform asset forfeiture, search procedures and deter intrusive tracking of citizen information through various means. We have also focused efforts on visiting rural counties, dealing with a number of county/federal law enforcement issues and pushing forward on public lands lawsuits and education. This includes pressing on with RS 2477 Road cases, coordinating resources for a possible lawsuit on federal lands and filing or joining lawsuits against the EPA in multiple venues. Significantly, we have shown Utah's support for 2nd Amendment protections by joining West Virginia in its Supreme Court battle and other states in fighting against the Obama Administration's attempts to weaken gun rights. We are cracking down on white collar fraud cases and defending Utah businesses. I am pleased to report recent victories in numerous large fraud and class action settlements returning millions of dollars back to the state. We have dedicated significant time to programs protecting against identity theft, particularly in the undocumented immigrant community. In a short time, we have expanded resources to protect abused children while emphasizing and being respectful of parental and family rights. Our office has also recruited back key personnel and is assessing numerous proposals to recruit, train and retain additional top flight talent. We are addressing pay raises to promote hiring and retention, increasing internal morale, and developing training resources for issues such as document and email retention, and conflicts of interest and ethics. To promote transparency, we have produced tens of thousands of documents pursuant to GRAMA requests. I am very proud of the legal team of constitutional and Supreme Court experts we have assembled with our office to protect the sanctity of traditional marriage and Utah's constitutional right to define marriage. The dedication and caliber of work by this team in defending Amendment 3 and other Utah laws has been remarkable. Their professionalism, hard work and commitment will serve Utah well at the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals argument on April 10 and quite possibly before the United States Supreme Court this year. And those are just a few of the things we have achieved since I took the oath of office Dec. 30. While I haven't had time to move my belongings into the office or decorate walls, I have poured everything I have into the duties of the office. I am encouraged that with more time in the office, I can continue to work alongside the many excellent AG attorneys and staff to defend and protect Utah. I will continue to focus my time and energies on the vital business of the state and work diligently to regain the public’s trust in the Attorney General’s Office. While secondary to my principal responsibilities, campaigns are an important part of the political and public service process. With regard to the AG race, I look forward to healthy and respectful discussions of issues and wish all candidates who enter the best of luck. I will work hard on my campaign and appreciate so many of you who have volunteered to help. While there are seemingly endless legal decisions, policy issues and operational efficiencies to manage in the office, I was pleased to be able to take a little time with KUTV2’s Shauna Lake few weeks ago to share my thoughts about my new role as Utah AG, my family’s unwavering support, and my vision for the office. Kevin Jacobs is running for re-election as Salt Lake County Assessor

I am excited to announce that I have filed as a candidate to continue serving you as the Salt Lake County Assessor! In the six months since the Central Committee appointed me to fill Lee Gardner's term in office, I have worked very hard to make substantial changes to the office. The most significant changes include:

Reorganized the office

• I split the Real Property Division into two smaller divisions, the Residential Division and the Commercial Division.
• At the same time, I dissolved the Statistical and Modeling Division, as well as the Appeals Section, and assigned those individuals to the respective Residential or Commercial Division.
• This realignment means the two divisions have all the responsibilities and resources for their area. All phases of property valuation are now "self-contained" within each division. Appraisers and statisticians now work together as a team, which enhances their communication and makes them more accountable for the final product.
  Completely revised how appraisers are assigned their work

• Previously, appraisers would work in one area of the county and then move to another area the following year. Now, appraisers are assigned to one area and will not rotate. They will be responsible for new construction, reappraisal, and the appeals that come from their area.
• The appraisers will focus on gaining a very detailed knowledge of their area and the changes that are happening within it.
  These changes are a fundamental shift in how the office functions on a daily basis. I am committed to enhance the performance of the office, and assure you that I am working diligently to make it happen!

Caucus Night Has Arrived!

Caucus night has finally arrived! You still have time to pre-register if you haven't done so already. Click here to sign-in now for your neighborhood caucus meeting tonight and avoid waiting in the check-in line. If you register online you don’t have to fill out the sign-in sheet. Also, if you find out you won’t be able to make it to your Caucus, you can still vote by printing your absentee ballot and have a family member or friend bring it to your caucus in a sealed envelope (remember to sign the back of the envelope), with a copy of your I.D. (Note & Important– we will not take the copy of your I.D. It will stay in possession of the person you gave it to). Each person may bring a maximum of 3 absentee ballots. Your absentee ballot will count for every round of voting your candidates are in. We have made some changes to these meetings and our commitment is that the 2014 Caucuses last no longer than 2 hours! We have sped up the check-in process by using online registration and encouraging the precincts to limit voting to two rounds. With that, everyone should make the 2 hour goal. We know in 2012 many caucus meetings went very long because of the high turnout. We heard you and we have made the necessary changes. Now, all we need is YOU tonight, 7pm at your neighborhood caucus. Neighborhood Caucus Election is One Day Away

Your Neighborhood Caucus Election is just one day away and so we wanted to provide you with a quick update on VoterClick, our official caucus night website. VoterClick allows you to pre-register early to attend your neighborhood caucus. This will save you time on March 20 and allow you to skip filling out the forms you've typically had to in past cycles. If you want to learn more about the online registration process, click here. Party leaders will also be using VoterClick to enter caucus attendee and delegate information right after the meetings end. Entering this data directly into our new system will be a user friendly experience and it will allow us to have quicker access to more accurate information.
