Salt Lake County Republicans Pass Resolution about Obama's Executive Order

On November 20, 2014, at a duly called Central Committee Meeting of the Salt Lake County Republican Party, the following resolution was passed to address the recent unlawful actions of President Obama:

"While we acknowledge the need for discussion and action on the current immigration issues facing the United States of America is both timely and relevant, and we further agree that immigration and immigrants have been and continue to be a tremendous source of strength and diversity within our nation, we are opposed to the recent unilateral, unlawful and unconstitutional executive actions decreed be and imposed upon our country and its citizens by the sitting President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama."

"Per his Executive Orders and through other actions and regulations initiated and enforced by the office of the President and his cabinet, we have witnessed a blatant disregard of existing laws and constitutional constraints, particularly with regard to matters of separation of powers and the rule of law."

"Therefore, let it be resolved, that the members and body of the Central Committee of the Salt Lake County Republican Party are on record as being opposed to this illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional suspension of existing laws of the United States through unilateral Executive Action regarding immigration by the President of the United States and this encroachment on our constitutional rights and liberties. We further resolve to notify and advise our State and Federal Representatives at all levels to oppose the enforcement of these illegal actions and to defend existing law and constitutional principles. So say we, this day, November 20, 2014."

Official Election Canvass Results Revealed for Salt Lake County

All of the votes have now been counted. The official results were announced yesterday November 18, 2014. The results can be viewed on the Salt Lake County Clerk web site at

Public Election Results

The results of three races for Utah House of Representatives have flipped.

Republicans Fred Cox, Sophia DeCaro and Bruce Cutler thought that they had lost on election night. But now they have learned that they won. All those vote-by-mail ballots and provisional ballots made a difference. Truly, every vote counts!

Here is a news article that tells more about this.

Utah Democrats lose 3 House seats they thought they'd won.

2014 General Election Results in Salt Lake County

The Salt Lake County Republican Party is grateful for all of the commitment, sacrifice, hard work, and principled campaigning that resulted in a very successful 2014 Campaign Season. Thank you to all of you who were involved in the vetting, selection, and campaign process that led to GOP victory in 2014!

Ballots that still need to be processed include 10,156 ballots mailed or delivered to polling locations, 550 paper ballots cast at polling locations, and 9,717 provisional ballots.

We likely have retained all of our previously held seats and picked up the 4th Congressional District! Congratulations to all of our successful Republican candidates listed below!

We are grateful to all Republicans who donated time, effort, money, phone calls, and conversations with family, friends, and neighbors to generate these positive results.

We express special thanks and gratitude to all those who ran hard but did not win. It takes courage and a willingness to sacrifice a lot of time, money, and personal interests to run for office. These candidates served the GOP, the election process, and their neighbors of other or no party affiliation by taking the risk to run. We thank all of you listed below and wish you well as you get back to your regular lives! We hope the final count moves three of you into the win column!

We are still very close to picking up seats in the following three tight races! There are still 695, 750, and 1148 ballots yet to count respectively in the following three races, so we may end up winning one or more of these seats! We will know for sure on November 18th at 4 PM when the final count is certified.

We should view our overall results as a significant achievement. The off-presidential election year is the best time for Democrats to pick up seats. They didn't do so and we still may end up picking up the three seats listed above. We did gain the 4th Congressional District! Congratulations Mia!

All this despite intense efforts by the Democratic Party to:
  • Target huge sums to unseat Republican incumbents
  • Improve their vote by mail enrollments
  • Go door to door to get out the vote
The State GOP and Salt Lake County GOP successfully countered these efforts by Democrats. We organized, signed up mail in enrollments, called and went door to door to get out the vote, and raised money to support our candidates. We got out and voted! Again, we are grateful for all who helped.

We are excited and thrilled with successful results for the Republican Party nationally and the potential for Republican principles to redirect the course of this great nation. We must ensure the prosperity and success of our children and grandchildren. American constitutional freedom is the greatest hope for economic success and liberty for every child in the United States of America and for generations yet unborn. It is a beacon of hope and a light on a hill to families throughout the world who struggle for freedom under repressive governments that keep them from achieving their full potential. We stand ready with our Republican platform, principles, and dedication to constitutional rule of law, to be the guardians of the freedom, liberty, and future success of all Americans. We commit to stand tall to shine the light of liberty throughout the world to those seeking freedom from government oppression.

God bless all of you who stand ready to preserve and protect the Cause of Freedom.

God bless America.

Utah GOP calls out Doug Owens for Making False Claims

The Utah Republican Party sent out the press release below following today's 4th district debate between Mia Love and Doug Owens:

For Immediate Release
Thursday, October 30, 2014
Contact: James Evans

Utah Republican Party Exposes Myths Told by Doug Owens during Today’s 4th Congressional District Debate

Doug Owens continues to offer no solutions, just attacks. He also made several factual misstatements during today’s debate. Here are a few of them:

MYTH #1: "I certainly have never made a comment about my opponent’s faith. I have never attacked my opponent personally."

TRUTH: When speaking to a group of Democrats back in April, Doug Owens personally attacked Mia Love by saying, "I don't think Mia Love represents LDS values, frankly."

Earlier this month, a reporter questioned Owens on whether he still stands by that statement. He responded by saying, "I stand by what I said, absolutely."

MYTH #2: "I have out-fundraised Mia in the state of Utah."

TRUTH: As of the latest FEC report, Mia Love has fundraised $477,833 from Utah donors. Doug Owens has fundraised $440,997 from Utah donors.

Doug Owens has just 566 Utah donors. His Utah supporters give an average of $779.

Mia Love has 2,541 Utah donors. Love's Utah supporters give an average of $188. Her base of financial support in Utah is clearly much broader than that of her opponent.

Source: www.fec.gov

MYTH #3: "There is no such thing as a federal monopoly on student loans."

TRUTH: The Department of Education has a huge monopoly on the student loan marketplace as a consequence of the 2010 federal takeover of the student loan industry. As explained in the Wall Street Journal, "The Department of Education became the originator of roughly 90% of U.S. student loans thanks to a provision passed along with the Affordable Care Act in 2010." Countless other publications agree with the Wall Street Journal on this point.

Moreover, Doug Owens admitted in today's debate that he supported the federal government's elimination of private student loan lenders "as a cost-saving measure." His position backs the Obama administration's 2010 takeover of the student loan marketplace, a takeover which has done nothing to stop tuition rates from skyrocketing and has resulted in fewer student loan options for student borrowers.

MYTH #4: "Mia supported the government shutdown."

TRUTH: Mia Love did not support the government shutdown. This is a ridiculous allegation that has no basis in fact. Mia has stated repeatedly that she would not have supported a government shutdown. Her long-standing position on the shutdown is as follows: "I would have voted against funding Obamacare and voted to keep open the rest of the government."

I recommend this article for everyone who wants to know more about Mia Love. It tells a lot about her background, her education, how she joined the LDS Church and about her family.

Mia Love Reaches Out to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

I have felt like we need to reach out to the deaf and hard of hearing more than we do. I have decided that whenever I am in a group of people and the speaker says, "Can you all hear, do I have to use the microphone?" that I will request they use the microphone. Because probably there is someone there who didn't hear the question. It is the same thing for when they ask if someone needs subtitles for the movie. We would extend kindness and help to someone in a wheelchair or on crutches. Let's do the same for disabilities that are not so visible.

Please read this letter to the editor which tells how Mia Love has reached out to the deaf and hard of hearing.

The hours for voting at West Jordan City Hall are 1:00 to 7:00 PM. You can vote either today or tomorrow. The next opportunity to go to the polls and vote will be Tuesday November 4 at the LDS Church on the corner of 70th South and 2700 West between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

Mike Lee: It's Time to Show Up

Our opportunity to determine the direction of this country is right here, right now, in this election.

For those of us who believe in freedom, democracy, and the rule of law: now is not the time to be a sideline observer.

Our cause is no different today than it was when Ronald Reagan led our conservative movement: Freedom. Security. Prosperity. This is our common purpose.

Today, these things are in jeopardy and the American people know it.

We have it within our ability turn things around. But it must start this November, with this election, your vote, and your help.

It is right now that we must unite as Republicans and ensure conservatism is alive and well in the Senate.

In crucial states our nation’s biggest issues are on the ballot:

National Security is on the ballot
Amnesty is on the ballot
Obamacare is on the ballot
Obama’s lawlessness is on the ballot
Fiscal responsibility, the national debt, and out-of-control spending are on the ballot
Respect for life is on the ballot

Send a message to Barack Obama today, and help me in bringing more conservatives to the U.S. Senate.

The only message we need is one of victory come November.

For the cause of liberty, Conservatives have never been afraid to stand up.

And this November, it’s time to show up.

Wanda Aman Endorsed by Governor Gary Herbert

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, Oct 29, 2014 -- Candidate for County Clerk Wanda Amann announced today that she has received the endorsement of Governor Gary Herbert in the race for Salt Lake County Clerk. In making his endorsement, Governor Herbert said that Wanda Amann is the best candidate to look out for Salt Lake County's voters and potential voters.
"I am supporting Wanda Amann for Salt Lake County Clerk. Wanda is a strong defender of the right to vote," said Governor Herbert. "We need someone with the vision to help reverse Utah's declining voter participation trend. Wanda's proven leadership, background, and skills qualify her as the best person to reverse this trend. She is the best choice for Salt Lake County Clerk. Please vote Wanda Amann on November 4," said Governor Herbert
Wanda Amann responded, "Governor Herbert understands the importance of the office of County Clerk. He knows that Salt Lake County must lead the State of Utah in election innovation and I am thrilled to have his support for my campaign. Utah's voter turnout has fallen drastically over the 24 years that the current County Clerk has been in office. I know that our way of life and the freedoms we enjoy are dependent on increased voter involvement. I want to implement my business experience to make the Clerk's office more customer service oriented. I will provide citizens with streamlined easy access to information about all the processes, candidates and issues so they can easily register to vote, navigate the election process and be informed voters. I would be honored to be your next Salt Lake County Clerk."
Wanda stated, "The County Clerk is responsible equally to all citizens, voters and candidates regardless of affiliation. It is critical that elections be conducted fairly and securely. However, statistics show the decreasing voter turnout has been particularly significant among Salt Lake County Republicans. This election is expected to have voter turnout at an all-time low, so I encourage all voters to make your voice heard and VOTE. This year you can register at your precinct polling location on Nov 4 and vote the same day."
Wanda Amann, who holds a BS degree in Business Economics from the University of Utah is a successful business woman who has 30 years customer service and marketing experience with local, regional and national corporations. She participated extensively on Mitt Romney's 2012 Presidential Campaign where she oversaw caucuses in many states and supervised several of the highest attended polling places in the last weeks of the election.
For more information about Wanda Amann visit her website at www.Vote4Wanda.com or call 801-671-9195 or email Wanda@Vote4Wanda.com.

I strongly support Scott for Salt Lake County Auditor. I have met him personally at the County Convention and other Republican events. I talked with his co-workers in the Salt Lake County Assessor's Office. He is a nice guy and very well qualified. He has the specialized training and the good common sense to do a very professional job as county auditor. He will help insure that Salt Lake County is well managed. Watch out for ballot mistakes!

CHECK YOUR BALLOT! Whether you vote by mail or vote by machine with early voting or on Election Day November 4, please make sure that you closely check your ballot before you cast it. It was reported just yesterday that at least some of the ballots in Salt Lake County are not correct. Patrice Arent, a Democrat elected official and a candidate for re-election, discovered that she was not listed on her ballot. She is in house district #36 and was given a ballot for house district #40. It is important to become an informed voter and know exactly what should be on your ballot.
