Effective Immediately DECLARATION OF CANDIDATE FILING WEEK CHANGE

REVISED DATE: FEBRUARY 28 - MARCH 4

SB 170, which was passed and signed by the Governor on February 14, changed the candidate declaration filing period for the General 2022 elections.

The period for declaring candidacy for the 2022 general election is Monday, February 28 through Friday, March 4 at 5PM. The request for this change was made by the political parties to the state legislature. Judicial retention filings were not changed by this bil and will still be July 1 - July 15.

How to File: Potential candidates should complete the forms for the office that they wish to declare their candidacy. Forms should NOT be signed until the candidate appears before the filing officer. The only exception is for a person declaring their candidacy who will be outside of Utah the entire filing period (Feb 28-Mar 4).

State candidates must file a disclosure statement. Disclosure accounts must be created on disclosures.utah.gov. For incumbents, a disclosure statement filed in 2022 is required. For new candidates, a disclosure statement must be completed prior to filing and within the past 10 days

UTAH STATE CAPITOL, SUITE 220 · P.O. Box 142325 · SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH 84114-2325

TEL: (801) 538-1041 · Fax: (801) 538 -1133

In the case of a candidate outside of Utah that entire week, the candidate should sign in front of a notary public and have a designee bring the forms in person to the filing officer, during the filing period. The designee must be prepared to coordinate a virtual meeting with the candidate and filing officer where the candidate can be heard and seen. 20A-9-202(1)(c) An example of this is Google Meet, Zoom, Facetime, etc.

Redistricting Changes for Our Precinct

  •  Because of redistricting for the 2020 census some things have changed.
  • We still have the same precinct boundaries (7000 S, 7600 S., 2200 West, Redwood Road). But the name has changed to WJD025.
  • We are still in Congressional District 4 and Burgess Owens is our representative.
  • We are in State Senate District 16 and Wayne Harper is our senator.
  • We are in a new state house district (District 36) and Jim Dunnigan is our representative in the state legislature.
  • We are still in County Council District 3 and Aimee Winder Newton is our representative.
  • Finally, we are looking forward to in-person caucus meetings again. The Republican caucuses will be on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, and our precinct will meet at Bennion Junior High.
  • More information is available from the Salt Lake County Clerk at https://slco.org/clerk/

Amy Coney Barrett

Friends,

This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding hearings to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. She has shown a knowledge of the law that is truly breathtaking.

Democratic senators have hurled vitriol and venom her way. Judge Barrett has simply smiled and responded with class and dignity, while politely and humbly dancing intellectual legal circles around them.

Precisely the temperament we want in a judge sitting on the highest court in the land.

One of the President’s most important constitutional duties is to appoint judges. As Senator Mike Lee explained in the hearings this week, the role of a judge is to apply the law as it is actually written, and not read into it things the judge wishes it said.

Unfortunately, Joe Biden has made it clear he will not do that. He will select judges who would act as his personal policymakers. Worse, he will “pack the court” by increasing its number of judges and then appointing judges who will apply the law the way HE wants it applied.

Biden has consistently refused to admit whether he will pack the court. He was recently asked whether the American people deserve to know his opinion. His response:  “No, they don’t.

You read that correctly. “No, they don’t.”

He then stated that the American people will “know my opinion on court-packing w
hen the election is over.”

These are stunning admissions--or perhaps simply rare moments of lucidness.

Folks, we don’t need to wait until the election is over to know where Biden stands. We know.

I agree with Judge Barrett, who once stated that “we shouldn’t be putting people on the court that share our policy preferences. We should be putting people on the court who want to apply the Constitution.

Will you please donate $25, $50 or $100 to help us ensure that we have more judges like Amy Barrett, and help us defeat a candidate who is intent on packing the court if he wins?

Sincerely,

Chairman Derek Brown

Vote Laurie Stringham for Salt Lake County Council At Large

Dear Salt Lake County Voters,

It appears that in Mayor Jenny Wilson's mind, her $1.4 Billion Bloated budget is still not enough; she wants more!  Wilson has already told us our taxes are going up.  Although taxpayers feel helpless as the County government takes our hard-earned money, this year you can do something about it and it is as simple as 1, 2, 3.   In one short minute, you can see how together, we can cut the Salt Lake County budget and cut your taxes.  It really is as simple as 1,2,3:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTkCaLkHEiI&feature=youtu.be

If you would rather read than watch, your instructions for cutting taxes are here:

Earlier this year, when County Mayor Jenny Wilson passed her enormous property tax increase, angry Salt Lake County residents felt powerless. What is worse? Mayor Wilson is not done raising your taxes unless we stop her. The Salt Lake County budget has increased 50% in just six years and now tops a whopping $1.4 billion dollars. We can no longer afford Wilson's tax & spend habits!

Because of this, voters like you asked me to run. But what else can we do to stop Mayor Wilson's out of control spending? Stopping Mayor Wilson is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Mayor Wilson needs the Salt Lake County Council to approve her BLOATED budgets. She knows she has the votes of her rubber-stamping Democrats. Bradley: yes. Ghorbani: yes. Arlyn: yes. Granato: yes.

Thankfully fiscal watchdogs Richard Snelgrove and Aimee Winder-Newton said no, but they need 3 more votes to keep Wison from picking our pockets. Fortunately, in this election, you have the chance to deliver those 3 votes, by voting yes for Dea Theodore, yes for Dave Alvord, and yes for me, Laurie Stringham. Each one of us has committed to CUTTING the County’s BLOATED budget.

Make sure you, your family, and friends are registered to vote. Every vote counts and your wallet depends on it. This out of control spending must stop. So remember, cutting taxes is as simple as 1, 2, 3:
    1. Dea Theodore
    2. Dave Alvord
    3. Laurie Stringham
for Salt Lake County Council
.

I would love to hear from you regarding this important issue!

Sincerely,

Laurie Stringham

Information about voting in Utah

Friends,

This coming week, registered voters across Utah will receive their ballots in the mail.

Utahns have been voting by mail for almost a decade now, and our election system is ranked #2 in the nation for election security!

Many of you have asked us questions about Utah’s vote-by-mail process, including what measures are in place to ensure a fair and secure election.

The Utah Republican Party has created this video to help you understand the vote-by-mail process, and answer many of the questions you may have.

Vote by Mail
Please take two minutes to watch this video, and then please forward it to anyone you know who might have questions about voting by mail. Most importantly, be sure to cast your ballot next week when it arrives!

Interview with Congressman Chris Stewart

I learned some interesting things. I didn't know Congressman Chis Stewart held some world speed rcords. I didn't know some of the National Security information. I won't be able to vote for Stewart because he doesn't represent my district. But, I sure hope he wins.
